Transfer Encryption
Once your data leaves your computer and is uploaded to remote server, it is very important that they are encrypted (coded / locked), so traffic is not sniffed by a hacker. All major suppliers have this part 100% under control, so you dont have to worry.
Server Encryption
Once your data a stored on the remote server it is different if they are encrypted or not. In our opinion it is not necessary, but definitely a plus if they are.
Encryption Key
Some service offers an encryption key that is best explained like this; when you open an account, you receive a unique code/key, which the provider will ask that you keep safe. The day when you need your data, you will be asked for the unique encryption key and most people will keep it on the computer, which is now “dead”.
Not so clever, but if you submit a receipt and ID your data will also be handed out – remember however that you might have to wait for 7-10 days. So if you prefer this option – take a copy to the encryption key and store it externally, VERY IMPORTANT!
